With the onset of technology, life has become easier than the earlier times. While various inventions hit the market every other day, there are some that are really a helpful solution to the common man. Below is a list of such ace inventions technology has imparted.
Hippo Roller
Access to clean water is the problem many people in the world are facing, especially women and children in rural areas. Since the water taps are situated away from their homes, women and children have to carry heavy water containers till there. Surveys cite that together about 140 million hours are spent by these people in collecting fresh water daily, which adds to their suffering. But, with 90 liter Hippo water cooler, they don’t need to worry anymore. Hailing from Africa, Hippo Roller is one of the technology's helpful invention that enables women, children or the senior citizens to collect water which is five times more than a single bucket. Users simply roll the Hippo Roller along the ground. It thus has made water access easy and also prevents water from being contaminated while being carried. Also, it is useful for irrigation as the irrigation cap-in-cap enables drip irrigation, thus facilitating small-scale farmers to irrigate their crops more efficiently.
Mechanical Tree Climber
As the name suggests, this innovation has given relief to the many coconut and palm tree climbers not only in India but across Asia. This innovative gem that was developed by D. Ranganathan to climb those tall palm and coconut trees is being sold all across South Asia. With an affordable cost of around Rs. 7000, the mechanical tree climber also prevents the climbers from falling down with the help of a four-lock pin. Thus, it is indeed a life saver.
Collapsible Shipping Container
Shipping containers have to carry huge loads during their journey. Also, due to limited space, one has to use more than one shipping container for transferring the goods. Thus, to solve this problem, collapsible shipping containers have been introduced. This is basically an expandable container that can be molded into use as per the requirement and quantity of goods that are to be transported. It is a useful invention that can help in the transportation of heavy goods.
Retractable Speed Bumps
Speed breakers are used to slow down the vehicles when they approach a crossing or an area which emphasizes on pedestrian safety. Hence, retractable speed bumps help as they contract as per the speed of the driver, providing him safety. Its smart sensors flatten it when a car driving slowly approaches but stays tall and obnoxious if a car's flying along. Also, while the vehicle passes over it, the compression leads to the formation of kinetic energy which is converted into potential energy that is stored in the energy storage device. This energy can be used for various devices. Further, this also reduces the suspension's wear and tear and exhaust emission by slowing down and accelerating again.
Transparent truck
Every year, thousands of people lose their lives or are injured while driving due to the blockage of their visibility by a lumbering vehicle. Argentina is high on this problem owing to their narrow roads. To help people there, Samsung and ad agency Leo Burnett teamed up to provide a creative solution, the transparent truck. It basically has a system that relays video footage from the front side of a truck to the four screens on its back, thus providing the drivers with a clear view of what’s coming ahead. At the time of its initial test, the Safety Truck covered about 1,000 km in three days without incident. Now, to make this technology broadly available, Samsung is working along with Argentina officials to refine the technology. We hope to see this technology soon on Indian roads that equally are fatal and accident prone. “We believe this will change the history of road safety,” said Sang Jik Lee, president of Samsung Electronics Argentina.
Personal Pollution detector
TZOA is another priceless innovation as it helps you to keep a check on the harmful chemicals and pollutants in the air you are breathing. This is basically a stationary device, which is developed by electrician Kevin R. Hart. It makes use of sensors for evaluating the atmosphere in any given area by measuring factors like temperature, particulate matter, dust and amount of UV exposure. This data is then uploaded to the cloud, which will help organizations like Johns Hopkins, conduct air-quality research. The company is in the process to launch the wearable versions of this pollution detector, which will further aid consumers to choose a specific walking route that has fewer impurities.
Low-cost sanitary napkins
Arunachalam Muruganantham is known as the menstrual man of India. After knowing the problems his wife faced during menstruation due to lack of affordable sanitary napkins, he went on to make history by creating low-cost sanitary napkins for women in rural India. The machine he has made makes about 120 napkins an hour, with each machine costing around Rs. 75,000. With an aim to reach out to remote corners of the country, Muruganantham has also collaborated with different self-help groups, NGO's and CSR agendas of multinational companies.
